In honour of Masturbation May, this month’s selection of Quickies will feature tidbits related to one of the greatest forms of pleasure: Self Pleasure!
This is the oldest known sex toy - a prehistoric dildo, which historians estimate to be around 28,000 years old.
The highly polished, smooth stone object is approximately twenty centimetres long. Etched rings can be seen around one end, making it’s penile resemblance ”clearly recognizable” according to Nicholas Conrad, an Early Prehistory professor at Tubigen University in Germany. Conrad’s research team discovered the phallus in a cave in the northern Germany in 2005.
In addition to being a sex aid, Conrad believes the phallus was also used to knap flints. Either way, talk about lighting a fire!
