As I’ve mentioned before, I watch porn and I read porn. Very rarely do I write porn.

I can write cheeky poems and bits of randy dialogue for my plays, but I’ve always been weirdly shy when it comes to composing full-flung smut.  All I have is a notebook with a couple short pieces that I’ve only allowed The Man of Mans to read, and the sex scene in my old NaNoWriMo piece that makes me cringe every time I see it.

Recently I met Renée Yoxon. I’ve admired her via Twitter for some time and we finally met in person a couple months ago.  She is one of the cool people, a jazz singer and community builder, so when she asked me to read erotica at an Arts Tweetup she was planning, I immediately said yes.

When I discovered the erotica she wanted me to read was my own, I immediately panicked and hid under some cushions.

I’ve blogged before about my comfort writing about sex vs. the squirm-fest that ensues when I try to write sexy.  This tasks was extra nerve wracking.  I can sweat and squeal and hide under my desk when writing dirty things becomes too intense.  There would be no such reprieve when I was reading.

But ultimately, I love performing and I love sharing my writing. I knew people would be nice and sex almost always goes over well with an arts crowd. So I arrived at Overkill last night, flushed-faced with a stomach full of butterflies but ready to read my story.

Before I even began, Renée was cheering me on and boosting my confidence. Sterling was a comforting presence, as I know he always has my back.  I met a few other friendly folks, which banished a few of the butterflies. It also helped that venue was very dimly lit.

After a chic jazz-duo set the mood, it was my time to read. I walked to the small stage, perched myself onto a stool.  Renée arranged my mic.  I took a deep breath and began.

Reading was…fun!  The crowd was very kind and very supportive, considering they were being entertained by a slightly sweaty erotica neophite.  The experience was a little intense and a little scary, but in the end, I was very, very glad I done it.  I might even do it again.

As for the story, I’ve posted a link below. Standard cautions apply: NSFW, Adult/Sexually Explicit Content, Flagrant Euphemisms, Roaming Commas, Exotic Spelling, Enter At Own Risk.

And one more, very special warning: MOM! DO NOT PROCEED! IMMINENT RISK OF MUTUAL HUMILIATION AND STROKE! REAPEAT: DO NOT PROCEED!

All others, read and (hopefully) enjoy.

Fucking Nice Guys

Once again, a very small world. I know Renée too.

And the story? Awesome. So different from what you usually see, and something I can relate to. I love it.

Hooray for awesome people knowing other awesome people!

And thank you muchly for the compliment! I’m very, very happy that you think it’s unique. In addition to being squirmy, was worried that the whole thing was going to be predictable and cliched.
